A December day on the upper Owens River. The main dirt road above Benton Crossing Bridge is dry and drivable. The spur roads have the occasional water puddle and lots of mud. Fishing for trophy trout is producing 18 to 22 inch rainbows and the occasional brown trout. Use size 12 stoner nymphs, size 12 green/gold wire Prince nymphs, size 12 gold ribbed hare’s ear variations and size 14 copper John’s in the deep holes, deep runs and cut banks.
